English Literature started from the Anglo-Saxon Period, when the barbaric warriors had to fight against the nature, as represented by Beowulf, the rhetoric devices such as alliteration is still appealing to the modern readers. The Medieval Age overwhelmed by Christian civilization are mostly predominated by the upper class of the society.  The Renaissance witnessed the prosperity of the poetry and proses composed by  William Shakespeare, John Milton, to name a few. This period was inspired by the need of the royalty and served for the humanistic enlightenment movement, which contribute spiritually to the Industrial Revolution and the Capitalism.  However, the harsh development of Capitalism brought about the Critical Realism, in which we found Dickens depicting a completely different world from the merrily medieval age....The history of British Literature reveals the facts of human being"s exploration of culture and civilization and the spiritual destination of the human kind.
